Organi-Grown Magazine

This project was by far, my favourite project I did in Digital Production. It was my first time using InDesign and I had fun experimenting with all the functions of this software. In the past, I had only been able to use programs like Canva to create magazines or posters so it was a big step up from that.

I wanted to make something that I was really proud of and not just place all the images and text on the page. I worked for countless hours on this magazine. I enjoyed learning how to do the clipping paths and utilizing multiple platforms to make it all come together. I have only made one other magazine in the past, with my travel media group. Since it was in a group, I took on the roll of a writer and editor. This magazine was the first time I was able to focus on the layout and design. While I do enjoy writing, I also really liked taking the media and developing a magazine that I am proud of. I made a scrapbook where I got to do a sort of physical magazine. I enjoyed making each of those pages unique and fitting to the book. I tried to take the same creativity to this magazine.

I was please with the magazine I submitted but after revisions with Colleen, I recognized the places where I fell short in the design. I went through the magazine carefully again and fixed the error areas that Colleen pointed out. I am very appreciative of the help and support that Colleen has shown me throughout this project’s duration.

One thing I particularly enjoyed doing was adding extra elements to the magazine. For the recipes, I added a paragraph for each one to set an intro to the recipe and add my own creative writing to the piece. I also added a full page advertisement for a cider that I went to this past summer. By including this element, it personalized the magazine to be more fitting to me, rather than a clone of every other magazine in the class. In addition to this, I also swapped the magazine logo for one that I made instead. I maintained the main ideas of the logo but altered it in areas. I really enjoyed how this magazine came together and I am proud of what I produced.
