I have never been a fan of making my own videos. I struggle to sound organic and avoid strange pauses or stumbled words. Because of this, I really enjoyed putting together the in-class one-minute video of oyster farming. I liked taking the images and B-Roll and putting them together into a video. I really liked the way it turned out because it wasn’t my voice on video. I found the process of this assignment to be interesting and fun to learn. I admire videography and cinematography. Watching videos and movies, I am now finding myself identifying B-Roll, understanding more about audio and video, and examining the way that the video flows effortlessly. I strive to improve in video making as it is something that would be a good skill to have. For family trips, I have made scrapbooks and photo albums, but I have yet to put together a video memoire of a trip.
For my one-minute video, I spent the most amount of time recording, and re-recording the audio/video clip of me talking. I struggled to produce something that I was pleased with. I filmed B-Roll in the car around Kamloops, at the university, and in the classroom. I tried to shoot the audio/video of me talking as one but I soon learned that I struggled to speak fluently and not sound like I was following a script. In the end, I used a couple different takes and found the sections that worked well to put it together. I worked to regulate the audio and music so that the video would sound pleasing to the ears.
In the end, I was happy with the way it turned out, reminding myself that I have very little experience in video making.
I also uploaded the oyster farming video because I am proud of the way that piece came together.
